Sales.—At a sale of trotting stock held at Wingatui on Saturday morning a yearling by Quite Sure—Probationer was purchased at 150 guineas by Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Probationer was bought by R. E. McLellan at 50 guineas, and Popotunoa, by Grattan Loyal—Probationer, at 75 guineas, by D. M. Kerr. In Australia.—The former Aucklandowned pacer King's Guide, added to his good list of Perth successes at Gloucester Park recently by winning the High Class Handicap in 3min 21sec. defeating Queen s Gift, who was unable to concede King s Guide 24 yards. At the same meeting Cavan Chief, who ran 3min 203 sec. was narrowly beaten in the Northern Handicap by Louis Again. New Zealand-bred horses who failed to reach a place in their races were Brent Light, Rongomai, Tempest, Rollo, and Golden Eagle. Early Racing.—The principal harness race for two-year-olds in New South Wales is the Sapling Stakes at Goulburn. This is run in divisions for pacers and trotters. At this year’s meeting the pacers cilvision was won by Yellowstone, one of the only crop of foals sired by Wrack in Tasmania. Yellowstone took 2min 25sec for the mile. Walla Cole (by Walla Walla) took the trotters' division in the poor time of 2min 51sec. Walla Cole is out of Lady Colenut, by the New Zealand horse Colenut. King Cole., sire of Colenut. at one time held the Dominion mile record at 2min 9sec.
