MINING NEWS BIG RIVER’ .MINES The report of the Big River Gold Mines for.the month of February Is as follows; No 7 Level: Intermediate off winze— Th" face of this drive is a distance of 37 ieet south from the winze. The reef has averaged 24 Inches in width, and maintains good values. No. 6 Level: All the ore in the stope north of the winze has been extracted, and filling is now in ‘ progress preparatory to rising for a fresh stope. Main shaft—The shaft has been sunk and re-tlmbered for a depth of 105 feet below the No. 7 chamber plat. Ninety-two tons of ore were sent to the battery, the total tonnage for the crushing period from January 13, 1942, to date being 149 tons. GILLESPIE’S BEACH RETURN The secretaries of Gillespie’s Beach Gold Dredging Company, Ltd., report mat the wash-up for the two weeks, ended Saturday, February 28, was 550 z lOdwt for 171 hours, from 21,141 cubic yards. OKARITO RETURN The secretaries of the Okarito Five Mile Beach Gold Dredging Company. Ltd., report a wash-up of 14oz of gold as a result of 152 J hours’ dredging. ASSOCIATED GOLD DREDGtS (P.A.) TIMARU, Mar. 2. The return of Associated Gold Dredges for ; the week ended .February 27 was 121x>z from 35,000 yards. g'pk : ” IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES DIVIDEND CAPITALISED (PA) WELLINGTON. Mar. 2. Imperial Chemical Industries of Australia and New Zealand, Ltd., announce that, after providing for taxation at the current rates and for depreciation, the net profit for the year ended .September 30 was £347,043, compared with £396,914 last year. In view of the capital expenditure on projects being undertaken during the year in connection with the war effort, the directors propose to recommend that a 5 per cent, dividend on the ordinary shares, amounting to £213,940, be capitalised and distributed pro rata to ordinary shareholders in the form of fullypaid ordinary shares. , TIN STATISTICS * According to the Tin Research Institute’s Statistical Bulletin, revised figures for world production of tin give a total of 209.500 long tons for the first 10 months of 1941, as against 187,600 tons in me first 10 months of 1940. The Netherland East Indies and Malaya were the largest exporters in October. ! The United States deliveries In the first 11 months of 1941 were 135,642 tons, compared with 106,139 tons In me corresponding period of 1940. The tin consumption of the United Kingdom totalled 24,879 tons In the first 10 months of 1941. against 24,904 tons in the corresponding period of 1940. World stocks of tin, including smelters’ stocks and carry-over, increased by 4736 tons during October, 1941, to 51,465 tons at the end of the month. Stocks at the end of October, 1940, were 53,890 tons. TAPANUI STOCK SALE The first • stock sale of the year conducted by Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., was held oh Friday, when there was a good yarding, laigely consisting of store lambs. There was a good attendance of buyers, Including several from Eastern Southland. The sale was a good one, and a complete clearance was made, with the exception of a small line of overweight ewes.
