RANFURLY

Outbreak of Fire.—On Tuesday afternoon of last week an outbreak of fire completely destroyed a shed owned by Mr R. Bennle and used in connection with his honey factory. The outbreak was caused by Wax, which the owner was melting in a copper, boiling over and catching alight. A strong breeze fanned the flames, and it was impossible to save any of the equipment stored in the building. The shed and the contents were valued at approximately £SO, and were covered by insurance. Home Guard Activities.—There was an improved attendance at the parade of the Ranfurly unit of C. Company, Manlototo Battalion, on Thursday last. After a short period of rifle exercises the unit wax divided into sections and lectures on bomb-throwing, the Tommy gun, the rifle, and. explosives, etc., were delivered by the n.c.o.'s. The Patearoa unit of the same company paraded on Saturday night when there was an exceptionally good attendance. The instructions and lectures given were on the same lines as those delivered to the Ranfurly unit. The first division men of both units were issued with boots.
