STEADY EXPANSION

AMERICA'S ARMED FORCES WASHINGTON. Feb. 23. The steady expansion of the American armed forces was emphasised on Monday, when President Roosevelt v asked Congress for an additional appropriation of 597,000,000 dollars for clothing and equipment for the army. This addition, he said, would increase the total for these items to 1.525,000.000 dollars. A busy week is indicated as Congress takes -up the Military Bill, carrying over 23,000,000.000 dollars for the War Department, 5,430,000,000 dollars for lease-lend activities, and 3.852,000,000 dollars for the acceleration of merchant ship construction.
