"STOP SQUEALING"
AUSTRALIANS REBUKED AN OUTSPOKEN CRITIC SYDNEY, Feb. 12. In an address to the British Empire Union in Australia, Mr Crichton Brown, general manager of Bennie S. Cohen Proprietary, Ltd., declared that Australians should stop "squealing" and get on with the job of fighting the war. It was a duty they owed to their country, to the British Commonwealth, and to the United States. Ninety-nine per cent, of Australians were behind Great Britain in the war, but not so many Australians realised that it was also Australia's war. "It must be remembered that Australia declared war on Japan," he said. "When one nation declares war on another, it should not skulk and hide, and squeal if attacked. Our cry to the United States for help brings with it responsibilities that we should also do our best. It seems to me that Australians should be divided into two camps—one of which should be supplied with rifles and the other with running shoes. The war will not be won bv Australians running away from the coastline and danger." Mr R. McDonald, formerly M.L.C., said that in this war, while Australians were fighting with Americans, they were also fighting for the Commonwealth.
