EAGER TO FIGHT
FOUR MEN FROM MALAYA JOINED NEW ZEALAND ARMY Four members of the Selangor Battalion in Malaya who were spending their furlough in New Zealand when Japan entered the war left yesterday to begin training at northern camps. The four men, all of whom are married, are Messrs J. L. K. Brown, R F. D. F. Bingley, J. Young and E. L. Jones, and they will undergo a course of instruction before being recommissioned, in the New Zealand Army.,When the Japanese made their treacherous entry into the war, the four men made every endeavour to return to Malaya to rejoin their unit, but no means could be found of returning speedily to Singapore. When the necessary arrangements could be completed it was too late—Singapore had fallen.
All the men were eager to be in the fight against the Japanese, and they offered their services to the army authorities here. Now they are receiving the opportunity of training with the New Zealand Army in preparation for the fight against the common enemy.*
