INVERCARGILL TRACK NOTES

PREPARATIONS FOR GORE (Special) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 10. The best sprint of the morning at Invercargill went to the credit of Gypsy Minstrel and Batsham, who ran five furlongs in lmin 3 3-ssec, the last four in 51 l-ssec. Gypsy Minstrel was one of the leaders to the home turn in the second division of the Trial Stakes at Winton and is a likely improver. The best six of the morning was done by Taxpayer and Recall, who went lmin 17 4-ssec, the last five in lmin 5 2-ssec and the last four in 54sec. Taxpayer gave Recall a good start. Melodist, Desert.; Maid and Marquee ran a furlong in 13 l-ssec and completed four in 52sec.

Colonel Rouge was doing it better than Elvena at the end of a mile in lmin 48sec, the first four in 53 4-ssec and last four in 54 l-ssec.

Royal Chorus and Princess Gainsborough left six furlongs behind in lmin 20sec, the last four in 53 l-ssec.

Wild Career beat Bantas comfortably over seven furlongs in lmin 35 3-ssec, the last four in .55 l-ssec.

Minton was under a good hold when, running four furlongs in 54sec. Irish Ruler and Hollyford moved away slowly from the _mile and came home the last three furlongs in 38 4-ssec. Hotch Potch also worked nicely, running the last six of seven furlongs in lmin 21 4-ssec. Sing Sing was badly galloped on in her race at Winton, necessitating veterinary attention and may not be able to race again for some time, but she will be nominated for the Dunedin meeting on the chance that she will make a qUick recovery.
