' «•" ■ J. C. WILLIAMSON PANTOMIME This morning at Begg's the box plans will be opened for a brief season of J. C. Williamson's pantomime "Aladdin," the opening performance of which will be staged at His Majesty's Theatre on Thursday night. The fact that "Aladdin " has attracted record attendances in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch Indicates that it is •an outstandingly good show. The, company, which numbers nearly 100 people from England. South Africa and Australia, is headed by the Great Levante, who besides bejng a remarkably fine magician, is also a firstclass actor. During the progress of the performance the Great Levante will present some of his latest and most spectacular magic tricks. It was the aim of the producers of "Aladdin" to entertain children as well as adults. For instance, Mr E. Edwards, the talented young London comedian, who plays the part of the Widow Twankey, induces both young and old members of the audience to sing with him the chorus o£ the latest song success, " Whose That Knocking at the Door." Miss Doris Whimp, who takes the name part in the pantomime, has been described by critics as the most talented and vivacious " principal boy " New Zealand has enjoyed for many years. Four outstanding comedians are Ronald Shand, Lawrie Long, a young Chinaman, Joe Valli, who is known by picture fans for his fine work in " 40,000 Horsemen," and George Corelli. Three brilliant I ■young singers and artists are the Misses Esme Levante, Ursula Irving and Joan McAlpine. Mr Robert Butt, who plays the part of the Emperor, is also the producer of "Aladdin." Two charming and talented ballerinas are Gwen Pike and Glen Baislev, and a feature of the production is the splendid work of 20 tiny tots in special dance features. Other features are the lavish scenery, the picturesque Russian ballets and the gorgeous costumes. A full orchestra is under the baton of Gordon Girdwood.
