NEW OFFENSIVES

CHINA PREPARES AMERICAN EQUIPMENT ARRIVAL OF SUPPLIES (Rec. 8 p.m.) CHUNGKING, Feb. 5. A Chinese communique states that Japanese troops who had infiltrated to the areas east and west of Waichow were pushed back. The Japanese, however, have succeeded in recapturing Poklo. A Chinese Army spokesman said thai Japan still had 700.000 troops in China. The United Press states that high Chinese military officials revealed that General Chiang Kai-shek is rapidly preparing for major offensives against the Japanese, using equipment provided by the United States: The offensives, which will start very soon, will be on a far larger scale than the recent counter-attack which crushed the Japanese at Chansha. All plans have been drawn up, and are awaiting only distribution of American' equipment and supplies to the Chinese troops in the various sectors. All the supplies needed are already in China, and even if the Burma Road is cut the plan will still be executed. FINANCIAL AID (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 6. News of more assistance for China comes from the United States, where the Senate has passed a Bill making available a loan of £ 125,000,000. for China.
