NOTICE TO OWNERS
ST. KILDA COUNCIL'S DECISION
Action is also to be taken against owners leaving motor, vehicles on the streets of the St. Kilda Borough overnight as the result of a decision made last night at a meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council. It.vwas stated that the borough inspector, in a recent survey, had found that many vehicles were left in the streets-both day and night by owners who had no garages or had made no other provision for the accommodation of their cars and trucks. . "The time has come when we must fall in line with the step taken by the City Council and prohibit: the ( leaving of vehicles in the street," said Cr J. H. Hinton. "It is bad enough if they are left under lights, screened as they have to be. but they will be an even greater menace to emergency traffic if there should ever have to be a total black-out. Owners will have to be notified to removetheir cars tp places of safety, either into garages or empty sections right off the roadway." . The Mayor (Mr N. D. Anderson) said that numerous complaints had reached him, and he appreciated how difficult a matter it would be to deal/with. Offending motorists often ' appeared to consider that their duty ended in parking vehicles as close as possible to the kerb, but their liability did not cease there. They laid themselves open to being faced with serious charges, as vehicles parked in darkened .streets were a danger to life and-limb. In reply to Cr E, Longworth, it was pointed out that cars parked on grass plots were virtually encroaching on the footpaths; •.-;
