MORNINGTON DISTRICT
MEETING OF RATEPAYERS At the monthly executive meeting of the Momington Ratepayers' Association, held on Saturday night, the deputy chairman, Mr D. R. Anderson, occupied the chair, . A letter of complaint was received from a local resident regarding the m'ishap which occurred on the Maryhill cable line recently, and asking that the matter should be investigated. —As the incident is being inquired into it was agreed that the association should ask the City Council for a full repprt on the result, of the investigation.' As a result of other complaints from residents regarding the general running of the Momington cable lines, it was decided to write to the City Corporation and point out that, in the opinion of the executive, most of the troubles were brought about by lack of experience and supervision.
The question of hooks for carrying prams .on the Maryhill line was again discussed. A letter was received some months ago stating thai these hooks would be attached, but as nothing had been done so far, it was decided to renew the request.
The matter of street naming was further discussed. It was pointed out that in > Christchurch the method adopted was the painting of the names on the street poles. It was decided to suggest that this method should be carried out. and to recommend the use of stencils. It was further suggested that arrows should be painted indicating the direction of the streets. Good wishes were expressed to Mr Anderson, who is shortly to leave to take up an appointment in Invercargill.
