• y.\ Ministerial Mr Adam Hamilton, who if a member of the War Cabinet, was a passenger for Wellington by the through express from Invercargill yesterday. Mr Harry Gotfev of Sydney, is at present visiting Dunedin. The Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) left for Wellington by the through express yesterday. Lieutenant-colonel C. S. White. VJD. t who has returned from duty overseas, has been appointed area commander of the No. 1 (Auckland) area. He will succeed Lieutenant-colonel R.: S. Halliwell. M.C., N.Z.S.C;, whd will [leave shortly for Wellington for attachment to the quartermaster-general’s branch. Lieutenant-colonel White went. Overseas a few months ago after being commandant of the Papakura Mobilisation Camp almost from the date of its opening in 1939. He served -with the Auckland Regiment during the Great War and continued with the Territorial Force after his return. The following changes in the Salvation Army staff have been announced:—Captain R. Petersen has been transferred from Cromwell to Palmerston, and will also take charge of Herbert; Envoy Muirhead, Pahiatua, is appointed to the charge of Cromwell; Major R. Liddell. Dunedin, to Napier; Captain H. Raethel, Green Island, to Riverton; Major C. Lee, Invercargill, to Hamilton; Major I. and Adjutant N. Bycroft, Nightcaps, to Spreydon; Captain I. to the charge of Nightcaps: Gaptam M. Mounsey and Lieutenant M. Hadneld, appointed to Green'lsland; and Captain D. Coster, of Wlnton. to Lyttelton. Lieutenant Douglas Wix. of Queens*town, has been promoted to captain. He will remain at Queenstown.

Passengers for the north by air yesterday were Mr and Mrs M. J- Manning, Mrs C. Osbourne. Mr R. W.,8e11. Miss J. Southern and Miss E. G. Hopwood for Christchurch, Mrs S. Simmons for Wellington. Miss P. Smithers and Master R. Smithers for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mrs O. T. Baragwanath from Auckland, Air Griffiths, Mrs G. A, Sinclair, Miss L. D. Anderson and Mrs M. MacDonald from Wellington, Mr J. Wright and Mr L. O. Chfverg from Christchurch.
