RUSSIAN TANKS OFFENSIVE AGAINST FINNS (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 18. Strong forces of Russian tanks and ski troops are pressing home the general offensive against the Finns on the Svir River front, and are seriously threatening the main enemy bridgeheads southwards of the river at Oshta and Lodinkoyepolye, says the Daily Telegraph's Stockholm correspondent. It is reported that the Russians are already fighting for possession of the airfield in Lodinkoyepolye, which is the most southern point of the Finnish advance, and now defended by two regiments of General Englebrecht's infantry division. A supplementary Moscow communique announces that General Boldin's troops occupied Shchenkino after destroying the 296th German division. BREST BOMBED SECOND SUCCESSIVE NIGHT (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 18. Brest was bombed last night by British aircraft for the second night, in succession. Enemy activity over Britain was slight.
TIMOR LANDING CONFIRMED IN LONDON (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON.Dec. 18. The landing of Dutch and Australian troops in Portuguese Timor is confirmed in London. The landing was made because of Japanese submarine activity round the island. AMERICAN PIANES ATTACK ON SUBMARINE SAN FRANCISCO, (Rec. 2 am.) Dec, 18. J The United States Air Force mand announced that American planes^''^."wltfkr= : aP tacked an enemy submarine. Details of the time and locality are not revealed. This, however, is the first official announcement sinife the war indicating the presence of enemy submarines off the Pacific coast. 1 '
