OAMARU PLANS APPROVED MEETING OF HOSPITAL BOARD Mr James Rodman (chairman) presided at the monthly meeting of the Waitaki Hospital Board yesterday morning. The Otago Hospital Board wrote asking the board to enter into a reciprocal agreement in respect to claims for outpatient and X-ray treatment.—Agreed to, a similar agreement being entered into with the Palmerston North Board. The Department of Health advised that the plans specifications of the new ward block, Oamaru Public Hospital, had been approved.—The secretary reported that tenders had been called for the building. The Department of Health recommended that the board agree to claim on other boards in respect to out-patients' treatment at a scale representing onethird of the charges applicable to patients not entitled to social security benefitsAdopted. The Department of Health advised that it had been decided that all hospitals, including emergency hospitals, shall remain outside the ordinary Emergency Precautions Service, and that the Minister of National Service • had constituted the Hospitals Emergency Precautions Service as part of the Emergency Reserve Corps.—Received. The medical superintendent (Dr Bevan Brown) was appointed local controller, and the chairman, the secretary (Mr W. M. Richardson) and Dr Bevan Brown an Emergency Committee. MALAY RUBBER COMPANY PAYMENT OF DIVIDEND DEFERRED Mr W. E. Robertson, chairman of directors, presided at the thirty-first annual meeting of the New Zealand Malay Rubber Company, Ltd. He reviewed at length the activities of the company during the past year, stating that the net income from the estate was £5.602 7s 2d, or £322 less than in the previous year. The Japanese had effected a landing near Kota Bharu in Kelantan, and heavy fighting had taken place 40 miles from the plantation. The manager, Mr L. E. White, had made plans for the removal of the staff and employees some time ago, and it was hoped that Mr and Mrs White and son. the staff and employees were all in places of safety. The report and balance sheet were adopted. In view of the altered circumstances arising out of the extension of hostilities to Malaya the question of the payment of a dividend for the year ended June 30. 1941 to both the ordinary and preference shareholders as recommended by the directors, was deferred in the meantime.

The retiring directors, Messrs T. Watson and R. K. Ireland, were re-elected. Mr D. V. G. Smith was reappointed auditor.

SHIPPING ACTIVITIES PORT OF OAMARU High Water. —December 17: 1.44 a.m. and 2.14 p.m. Coastal Movements The Wainui will load to-day for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne, via Timaru and Lyttelton. The Waipiata is expected early in January to load for Wellington and Auckland, via Timaru and Lyttelton. The Waipahi is due on Friday, December 19. to load for Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth, via ports.

PERSONAL Word has been received that Captain H. Murray Reid, engineer of the Waitaki County Council now with the 2nd N.Z.E.F., has been wounded in the Libyan campaign. The chairman of the Waitaki Hospital Board (Mr James Rodman) referred at the board's meeting yesterday morning to the number of young men from the district who had been killed and wounded on active service. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy. Mr Rodman also referred to Mr H. M. Ewart's impending departure for Auckland, and, expressing appreciation of his work, presented him with a parting gift. Mrs H. C. Jeffery, Test street, has been advised that her brother, Private Lloyd Price, is missing, and is believed to be a prisoner of war. Members of the Oamaru South School teaching staff were met yesterday by the headmaster, Mr E. H. Heward. Mrs Creeggan, of the infant department, Mr A. W. Coates, Who is leaving for overseas service, and Misses Paton, Familton and Williams were all thanked by Mr Heward and presentations, were made to Mrs Creeggan and Mr Coates. Mr G. A. McGregor joined in the good wishes to the departing guests. Mr R. W. Robertson, Stour street, Oamaru, has received word that his son, Private Elliott Robertson, is missing and is believed to be a prisoner of war in Libya.
