SUBSTITUTES FOR PETROL The development of-the natural resources of the Dominion to assist in overcoming the difficulties of, the petrol shortage is urged in a statement issued by the Otago Labourers' and Related Trades Union. . The points made are that the Government should undertake to develop shale oil resources, establish, power alcohol plants to distil, spirit from suitable ~ farm produce, develop producer gas, plants and retort petrol from slack-heaps or lignite mines, the coal from which' has little commercial value as domestic fuel. ' .
