CAPTAIN A. W. WESNEY NOTED RUGBY ALL BLACK (PA.) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 4. Advice that the former All Black footballer and Southland Rugby and cricket representative, Captain A. W. Wesney, has been killed in action has been received by his parents in Invercargill. Only this week word was

received that he had been promoted to the rank of captain. Captain Wesney was a member of the 1938 All Black team that visited Australia. The latest news of his sporting life recently came from the Middle East. He was the sole Southland representative in the New Zealand football team that beat the South African team by eight points to nil. Wesney scored five of his side's points. He was also a prominent swimmer and diver.
