WOMAN MURDERED

STRUCK WITH HAMMER ESCAPE OF ASSAILANT (P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Nov. 25. The wife of Frederick Joseph Speight, a commercial traveller, was murdered as she was sitting at a sewing machine in the living room of her house at 245 Park road, Palmerston North, to-night. A man was seen to leave the place hurriedly on a bicycle a few minutes after neighbours were alarmed by the woman's screams. The crime was committed with a hammer. Mr Speight was not at home, and the only son, a boy aged 12 years, was at the pictures.
