VISIT TO DUNEDIN

PRIME MINISTER AND DEFENCE MINISTER FORTRESS INSPECTION TO-MORROW The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, accompanied by Mrs Fraser and his private secretary, Mr W. O. Harvey, arrived from Christchurch by the afternoon express yesterday. Mr Fraser was met at the station by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), Mr J. W. Munro, M.P., and members of the Labour Party. He was tendered a civic reception in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall in the evening. The Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, accompanied by his private secretary, Mr F. M. Sherwood, arrived from the north by the express yesterday afternoon. He was present at the civic reception to the Prime Minister in the evening. A tour of inspection of the Taiaroa Head fortress area will be made to-morrow afternoon by an official party, including the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, and the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones. The Ministers alone will inspect the defences of the fortress, but the remaining members of the party will be permitted to visit the men's barracks and mess and the albatross sanctuary. The party will be conducted by the staff officer of the Otago military area, Lieutenant-colonel J. G. Jeffery, and will include the Mayor and Mayoress. Mr and Mrs A. H. Allen, the town clerk and his wife, Mr and Mrs R. A. Johnston, Mrs Fraser, and Mr L. E. Richdale, who has been largely responsible for preserving the albatross rookery. On the return journey, the party will visit the Maori centennial church at Otakou.
