MURDER CHARGE
TAURANGA WOMAN'S DEATH TRAGEDY IN EAST AFRICA (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. News received from Nairobi, East Africa, states that the death of Mrs F. L. Corrigan, who was well known in Tauranga, resulted in a murder charge against the Rev. V. V. Verbi. her son-in-law. Mrs Corrigan was visiting at Verbi's house in an isolated part of the colony, and a disagreement developed as to a visit to Kilimunjaro. The next day Mrs Corrigan .was killed' on the veranda by a shot from a sports gun belonging to Verbi. The accused's version of the tragedy was that when Mrs Corrigan came out of the house he had the gun poised with his fingers on the triggers, and as he turned, startled, one barrel was discharged almost simultaneously with the other. Mrs Corrigan fell mortally wounded. The story of the accused was not accepted by the jury, and at an extended trial, which has just been concluded, a verdict of murder was returned.
