DIAMOND WEDDING
McAlister—Styles The diamond wedding of Mr and Mrs E. McAlister, of Waipounamu. Waimea Plains, Southland, was celebrated yesterday. Mr McAlister was born during the voyage of the Donald McKay to Australia in 1858 and landed with his parents in Victoria and in 1863 came to Dunedin, where he lived for 20 years. In 1878 he took up land on the Waimea Plains, where to-day he is the only original pioneer settler in the district. Mrs McAlister was born at Broad Bay, Otago Peninsula, in 1859 and went to Knapdale. Southland, with her parents when the McNab estate was cut ud for closer settlement. On her marrfage she went to live at Pyramid. Waimea Plains. There are six of the eight children living, and 16 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. The eldest son. made the supreme sacrifice during the Great War and the third son died 17 years ago in Sydney One rather unusual featui-e ol ttv Styles family is that each of the five daughters has celebrated her golden wedding and now one has reached her diamond anniversary. This surely is a record.
