COMMUNITY SING

SOUTH DUNEDIN "VICTORY" NIGHT The Concert Chamber of the Town Hall was filled on Saturday night when the South Dunedin Sing Committee held a special " victory" sing with the object of raising funds for the purchase of Christmas parcels for soldiers, and when all the contributions are received a substantial sum should be available. In addition to community singing, an attractive supporting programme had been arranged, those contributing being the Girls' High School Choir, Miss June Holmes, Mr Archie Jones, the Green Island Boys' Quartet, the E.P.S. Orchestra, and Master Billie Chambers. The final of the talent test was decided, Master Ray Donaldson being the winner, and he was presented with a miniature silver cup by Dunedin's " Scarlett O'Hara " (Miss Tess O'Connor). The sing was led by Messrs R. McKenzie and E. Fish, with Miss Myrie Hunt as pianist, and at the conclusion of the programme the Deputy Mayor, Mr D. C. Carrieroni thanked those connected with the sing for what they were doing to assist patriotic and charitable objects. APPEAL FOR ORPHANAGES In response to requests, the committee has agreed to continue the sing for a few weeks, the funds, to be given to the orphanages of the district. It is hoped that a generous response will be made to such a worthy cause. Mr Archie Jones has again offered his services, and will be heard in several numbers on Wednesday.
