MASS MEETING OF PROTEST WAR SERVICE APPEALS DEPARTMENTAL ACTION RESENTED 'Up The feeling that has been engendered among the employees at the Hillside Workshops by the action of_ the Railways Department in dismissing a casual tinsmith who is a married man, and appealing against service by a single tinsmith who wishes to go to the war, was demonstrated yesterday, when, during the lunch hour, a mass meeting was held in the Social Hall. The hall was packed to the doors, and the following resolution was carried; — This special meeting of the Hillside employees demands that the notice of dismissal given to a tinsmith be withdrawn, and that no discrimination be practised on this or any other occasion, between permanent and casual employees in regard to appeals against military service on behalf of the Minister of National Service. the Railways Department, or any other appellant.
