THREE BILLS PASSED CONDITIONS AT KATANA PA (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 10. It was a matter of necessity that the people of Ratana should have the right to govern themselves and improve the conditions in their pa, said Mr Rangi Mawhete. ■ the only Maori member of the Legislative Council, when the Native Purposes Bill was being passed by the Council this afternoon. He said the Bill had been agreed to by the whole of the Ratana movement in the pa About- 300 Maoris were living there, and it was high time the place was cleaned up. The Appropriation Bill and the Local Legislation Bill were also passed by the Council.
