PERFORMANCE BY Y.M.C.A CLASSES

The annual gymnastic display of the Young Men’s Christian Association took place on Wednesday night. Under the direction of Mr R. L. J Griffiths, a large variety of gymnasium exercises, in which men, women, boys, and girls took part, was presented. Some performers, bearing the unmistakable stamp of skilled training, took part in an extensive variety qf evolutions, which kept a large audierfee well entertained for over two hours.

The display opened impressively with organised games by the primary boys. Skill and animation was shown by girls of the Saturday morning class In dumbbell exercises, dances, and tableaux, and this was followed by a display of secondary school boys on the parallel bars and long horse. Their human pyramids were skilfully formed. Wand exercises, calisthenics, and glittering circles were presented by the ladies’ class, and the antics of three clowns (Messrs Griffiths, Purdie, and Bolton) added a bright interlude. Two piano-accordeon solos oy Miss Rena Simpson were well received. The final, in which the entire company was included, was admirably arranged. Miss M. McAra was the pianist, and Mr J, O. D. Everson acted as stage manager, Mr S. Walker being in charge of the lighting.
