ONE-HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY

A MANAWATU CENTENARIAN (P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ Sept. 26. Mr William Abbott Weekes, of Maxwell, who came to the Dominion from Devonshire in 1866. attained his 100th birthday to-day. In his earlier years he was engaged in railway construction work in the South Island, and later in road contracting in the Manawatu district. He retains a lively mind and good hearing, but became blind a year ago.
