THE MENACE OF FEDERAL UNION
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —“ Vigilant ”is not so very vigilant —like most others—or he would have read the indubitable signs of the times which clearly indicate that the dawn after the present nightmare of nation-wide war will certainly produce a single world federation. It will be a federal union in the government of which the several states will not even have representation, but will be subject to a single authority, not chosen by the people. Does your correspondent think that some new form of Sovietism chosen by the people can succeed in world government any better than all the governments chosen by the people right through the ages? If so, he is wrong. The natural urge to evil in mankind is too strong to produce Utopia; and if man is left longer to govern himself, the cunning of wickedness would gain the mastery over uprightness, and man would suffer self-extermination with the further increasing of knowledge, and annihilating ability—just the very state of affairs planned by that arch enemy of the Creator of man. The signs of the times unerringly show that this world conflagration is of far deeper significance than we in general realise. The fight is astral; the conflict is between that fallen angel and the Almighty; men are but the tools, and it is our exceeding proud privilege to be fighting on the side of the Almighty. Evil is to be outlawed for the coming age, comfnencing on the morrow; and man, having shown he is unable to govern himself successfully, is, on the peace morning, coming under theocratic rule by the King of Kings. Meanwhile, to quote “Vigilant’s” concluding words, “the people in their complacence look on at the preparation 4 not ’ for their own funeral, but lor a millenium of happiness and plenty of which they have no present conception.”—l am, etc., G. Steel. September 23.
