CHEESE INDUSTRY
SEAWARD DOWNS FACTORY SEVERAL NEW FEATURES (Special) INVERCARGILL. Sept. 24. The new Seaward Downs Dairy Factory. which is being erected to replace the building destroyed by fire about a year ago. will probably be ready for occupation before the end of October. It was expected that the factory would be available at the beginning ipf the present season, but delays experienced in equipping it with machinery have made this impossible, and milk which would normally be handled at Seaward Downs is at present being distributed to the surrounding factories; The new factory will be one of the most modern cheese plants in New Zealand, and a feature new to the South Island will be automatic humidity control in the. curing _room. The installation of this equipment is expected to result in a maTked improvement and standardisation in the quality of the cheese. Although the feed position is not good in many parts of Southland, and soring has been backward, the supply of milk at Eastern Southland dairy factories for the first fortnight of the season has been normal. A fairly steady increase has been noted in the intake of milk this week, and factories will soon be handling large quantities of milk daily. ......
