While the rest of Wellington slept in peace on a recent night one of its suburbs, Ngaio. underwent an imaginary air raid, for the purposes of which some shops, houses, and a church were either “ demolished or set on fire by high-explosive and incendiary bombs, water mains damaged, and roads blocked.” This was the first practice night alert carried out in Wellington.
