LAWRENCE

Tuapeka Bowling- Club. —The fiftyninth annua] meeting of the Tuapeka Bowling Club was held in the pavilion, when Mr E. M. Stevens presided. The election of officers resulted:—Patrons, Dr W. Sutherland and Mr J. McKinley: president, Mr W. Duthie; vice-presi-dent. Mr W. Suters; secretary, Mr E. M. Stevens: Management Committee— Messrs J. Deans. H. E. Pitt, A. L. Hart, R. C. Moore, B. Fulton. G. Weston, and G. Talboys; Selection and Match Committee—Messrs H. E. Pitt, R. C. Moore, and E. M. Stevens. It was resolved to thank Mrs C. J. ■ Morris for her donation of a trophy and Mr C. Moyle for his assistance on the green. Mr J. Brook was elected a life member of the club. It was agreed that the Milton Club he requested to appoint delegates to represent the Lawrence Club on the Sputh Otago Bowling Centro. Patriotic Committee.— At a meeting of the Patriotic Committee, held in the council chambers on Tuesday night, Mr W. Suters presided. It was reported that the Lawrence and Waitahuna Drama Clubs would present four one-act plays in the Town Hall on October 2, the proceeds to be given to the patriotic funds. It was decided to hold a carnival on Boxing Day, and the election of a Carnival Committee was held over till next meeting. The balance sheet in connection with functions for soldiers showed a credit of £l7 6s 7d. Receipts since June totalled £193 Os 3d, including £53 4s 6d from Mr W. Paget Gale’s concert and £ll 15s from the sale of Union Jack badges. Personals —Miss M. Crow, of Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs Eric Maunsell. Bowler’s Creek. —Mrs D. Jamieson, who recently visited Lawrence, has returned to Wellington.—Mrs J. G. Christie, of Oamaru, is at present spending a holiday in Lawrence—Miss M. Hughes has returned from a visit to Queenstown.
