BURNS CLUB

MONTHLY CONCERT The Roslyn Presbyterian Choir, conducted by Mr J Paterson, provided the 594th concert of the Dunedin Burns Club in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night, when an enjoyable programme was presented. The president (Mr Arthur Macdonald) welcomed the large audience of members and friends, and expressed regret at the smallness of the number of entries in the recitation section of the Dunedin Competitions featuring the works of Burns. It was disappointing to see so few competitors, he said, despite the good prize money offered. Miss E. Williamson was the accompanist, and the following was the programme: Opening ode, " Star o' Robbie Burns"; pipe selection. Piper J. McVean; part song, "The Chase"; song, " Loch Lomond," Miss Betty Nicolls; double quartet, " O Hush Thee, My Babie"; part song, "The Scottish Blue Bell"; humorous recitation, "A Nicht wi' Rab and Tarn," Mrs M. Oliver; part song, " The Shepherd's Song"; Irish jig, Misses Noeline and Gwendoline Bush: song, "Castles in the Air." Miss Eileen Gillies: part song, "To the Death"; duet, "The Crookil Bawbee," Miss Nicolls and Mr Paterson: violin solo. "Lullaby." Mr R. Pettitt; part song, "The Battle of Stirling Bridge": humorous recitation, Mrs M. Oliver; song, "Border Ballad," Mr J Paterson; part song, "Moonlight ": Highland fling. Miss Valerie Brown; part songs. " Gipsy Chorus" and " Spring Song."
