LAWRENCE

Tuapeka Domain Board. —At the monthly meeting held on Friday the following were present:—Messrs A. Hart (chairman), Batchelor, McKinlay, Weston and Dr Sutherland. The-Social Security Department wrote offering a subsidy of £3 per man per week for two men for planting trees and clearing reserves. The offer was accepted. It was reported that 1040 holes had been dug and the trees ordered. The treasurer (Mr B. Fulton) reported that there was a credit balance in the bank of £2B 14s sd. Voluntary Aid Detachment.—The local members of the Red Cross Society who were successful at the receni examinations have been undergoing their hospital training at the Tuapeka Hospital. Each one is required to perform 60 hours' duty and under the tutorship of the matron (Sister S. M. Beresford) the practical work is being performed.
