BRITISH AIR ACTIVITY WIDESPREAD TARGETS RUGBY, Aug. 28. An- R.A.F. -Middle East communique states that fighters of the R.A.F> Fleet \. Air Arm engaged a number of ME io9's which atternpted to attack our shipping in "the Mediterranean lon August 26.. Three enehiy aircraft were, shot down. During the night Of August 26-27 heavy bombers attacked the dock area at Tripoli and Benghazi. About 15 tons of high explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped. At Tripoli several violent explosions occurred and many fires were started, in the docks and near the wireless station. . One particularly large blaze at the military stores was visible 120 miles away. Medium bombers ,of the S.A.A.F. attacked a concentration of enemy mechanical ' transport near Ras Uenna, yesterday. Bombs were seen falling among vehicles. ; Two unidentified enemy aircraft dropped incendiary bombs on Malta during the night of August 26-27. Both aircraft were illuminated by searchlights, arid were attacked by our fighters. Both were hit, and one engine of each was set on fire. One lost height rapidly and the other had its undercarriage down as it flew towards the Sicilian coast. In Iran R.A.F; bomber aircraft dropped pamphlets on Hamadah, Sultariabad, and other southern towns.
From all these operations two of pur fighters are missing.
