How he saw a soldier walk into the New Zealand Forces Club in Cairo and read his own name as killed in action from a list on the wall, is related by Private G. B. Dowling, in a letter to his brother, Mr L. Dowling, Wanganui. "So I have seen one live ghost, anyway," the writer adds. Whether long service medallions for Rugby referees who have completed 15 years' service should be awarded this season was a question discussed it a meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union on a recent evening. One member said that nothing would be lost by holding over such awards till after the war. Blazers for players had already been cut out. Mr M. Gunderson: " Better do what we can now. It might amount to a big bill after the war." It was decided to make the awards as usual. The recipients this season are Messrs R J. G. Collins and S. ,C. Murray.
