ELECTRIC POWER
CENTRAL OTAGO BOARD The monthly meeting of the Central Otago Electric Power Board was held on Tuesday afternoon, the following members being present:—Messrs w, Bringans (chairman), W. M. Lopdeli, L. M Jolly, J. F. Partridge. A. T. Allison and G. T. Alexander. The engineer-manager reported' as follows on the work carried out during the past month:—The line staff carried out repairs to the ■ pipe . line at the Meg station. A three-phase service was erected at Cromwell, one extra phase at Clyde, extra low-tension street main at Clyde, single-phase services erected at Alexandra and Becks, one street light shifted and three new ones erected at Alexandra, and general maintenance work. The wiring staff completed the following work:—Alexandra: Lighting points, 37; heating points. 22; ranges, 3; water heaters, 2; motors, number 2, horse-power 2. Cromwell: Lighting points, 3; heating points, 3; motors, number 1, horsepower 2. r Upper Clutha: Heating points, 3; ranges, 2; water heaters, .2. The momentary peak on the Meg station during. July was 1800 k.w., the half-hour peak 1730 k.w., the -average daily load 853 k.w.,. and 'the' ..uftits generated 896,340. The maximum peak load at the distribution,,,. sub-sljatiqO; was 1800 k.w. for '.the month. > ' A letter was received 'from the; district electrical engineeiy Christchu'rchj advising that, before considering:.the application for power supply, from the settlers of Poolburn and Ida Valley, further information was required as to the benefits to be derived by the district from the introduction of electric power. ,'. -- The secretary of the Power Boards! Association wrote . advising , that "this year's conference will-be held in Wei-., lingtoh on Thursday,' September 29. The Banks'.Peninsula-,Board■•<■wrote enclosing; a .copy' of. a reply, sent by. it to the secretary of the Power "Boards' Association expressing strong disapproval of the; proposal-put before the Government to restrict; broadcasting from all radio stations throughout New Zealand as a means oi ; conserving the use of electric power- in the North Island, when the shortage affected the North Island only:—lt was resolved that, a letter be sent to the Banks Peninsula Board advising it that the Central Otago Board approved:,Qf ( the reply* forwarded 4o.<the: association, and was opposed to any' curtail--ment of radio broadcasting in areas: not affected by the shortage of power;
