COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA

' to mi a>rtm I Sir,—Your three .Communist correspondents—Messrs J. J. Hannan;. J. L. Marston, and the , mis-called Communist" scribe (whose suggestion to treat me with contempt was really farcical in view of his futile and specious attempt "to belittle me) certainly took full advantage of your generous allowance of space to indulge in their usual Red propaganda. In it they: showed their disgruntled and disruptive tendencies towards our existing democratic conditions of life, in which they are allowed the priceless privilege of expressing themselves in your columns, and in which they never fail to sow the seeds of discontent and disruption, which we non-Communists see fit to combat. Do they ever stop to consider if these privileges ire granted in any other country to-day outside of the English speaking ones? Do they realise the liberty they possess these days to criticise publicly the authorities , who govern this country*' This privilege is not the lot of similar agitators in Soviet Russia. Do they desire to drag us down to the same regimented level of.the Russian model where everything is moulded into a pattern ordained by the rulers, and must be accepted by the masses whether they like.it or not, for if they vocalise their. discontent their lot is Ihe firing squad. That is why we non-Communists prefer to fight against the aggressive and disruptive methods in this country, of a small but noisy minority of agitators. We, object to their methods of undermining the peace-loving and loyal trade unionists who find their working conditions today so much improved when compared with conditions existing years ago. I need not detail them here These improvements are admitted by all and sundry" (eve» by Communists in their Sr'moments). Sir, it is evidently ndi improvement; of these conditions that thesswant, but a brand new Rus-sia-h Soviet model to be implanted in these fair isles of ours, which with <^ : help: we shall always resist wS£ at the fsame time, we # seek # to SoWi-Mr own standards of life tor tn?"beo«flt of our rising generation. <%*&*% more? l thank you for toTfeneSis space which-you have SLSte* during this- controversy.-I penstma uu • |teß| Listener •';■ anaiv.wc., 1 !.-, . ,;, August 28.
