NO PEACE
VO THF EDITOR Sir, “There will never be universal peace on earth until the rejected King returns to put the world right and set up His own kingdom of peace, justice, and prosperity.'’ Acceptance of such a view is gradually becoming general, and all mankind can how da is to wait. Hers is another aspect, which was torn from a book picked up in a hospital. I know neither the name of the book nor that of the writer. Perhaps “ Maran-atha ” can oblige. The only coming again of the Lord Jesus which appears to me to be true is the opening of the spiritual nature, the power of seeing into supersensuous , realities, the pressure from without of the Christ spirit whereby the universally indwelling Christ nature is sensitised and quickened. This " Coming of the Lord ” does not bring any person from a distance or make anything to be that was not here before any more than a powerful telescope makes a distant star to be. The new spiritual sight does not create the supernatural reality, and in all such “ openings.” whether gradual or sudden, the Lord “ cometh with clouds a metaphor taken from the Book of Daniel descriptive of the disciplinary element of every great awakening with the travail pain's of a new birth, with the trials, temptations, and purgings that accompany the operation for cataract performed by the Great Physician on the spiritual eye. I only write to help men to believe. President Roosevelt has said: “A world conquered by the sword cannot follow the footsteps of Christ. It doss not, therefore, make for a happy future for any nation.”—l am, etc., ■ August 27. Harold Ranchman.
