ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
OLD MAN’S DEATH ' / Cornelius O’Donoghue, a retired seaman, aged 66, was ,found in a state of collapse at his lodgings in Filleul street shortly before 11 o’clock yesterday morning. An ambulance was summoned, and he was despatched to the Hospital, but he died before he could be admitted. An inquest will be held. BABY FALLS ON RANGE Esme Finnerty, a baby, suffered burns when she fell on a range at her parents’ home at 45 Serpentine avenue yesterday afternoon. She was admitted to the Hospital at 1.50. FALL FROM CABLE CAR George Kidd, an elderly man. residing at 11 Cutten street,"fell from a cable car in Rattray street' yesterday afternoon and suffered head injuries and concussion. He was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 3 o’clock. DEATH OF AIRCRAFTMAN (P.A.) PALMERSTON N.. Aug. 28. At the inquest on Leading Aircraftman Robert John McQuillan, R N.Z.A.F., who died in Palmerston North Hospital on August. 19, the coroner found that death was due to status lymphaticus while under an anaesthetic. The deceased formerly resided at Dannevirke. The specialist who performed the nasal operation said he heard of a rumour that a swab was left in the patient, and he described the method of anchoring the swab at the back of the nose, this being the usual procedure in such cases. The swab was removed when the operation was- completed. The pathologist stated there was no indication of a respiratory blockage or overdose of anaesthetic. The coroner stated that the_ anaesthetic was satisfactorily administered, and the operation carefully carried out.
