NATIONAL SAVINGS

THE FLAG COMPETITION RIVERTON IN LEADING PLACE (Special! WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. For the first fortnightly period in the third stage of the National Savings Flag Competition several changes in leading towns are recorded. This was not unexpected, as the contest for the increased number of national savets in proportion to the size of the community is now restricted to towns halving a population, of 1000 or more. The leading towns (postal district in parentheses) are as follows: Dargaville (Auckland). Kaiapoi (Christchurch). Opotiki (Gisborne). Riverton (Invercargill), Wairoa (Napier), Wakefield (Nelson). Oamaru (Oamaru), Palmerston North (Palmerston North), Ohakune (Wanganui), Picton (Blenheim). Owaka (Dunedin), Hokitika (Greymouth), Rotorua (Hamilton), Stratford (New Plymouth), Thames (Thames), Geraldine (Timaru), Featherston (Wellington), Westport (Westport). Leadership for the Dominion is held by Riverton in the Invercargill district, with 100 per cent., the number of depositors equalling the total local population
