GUEST: AT SMOKE CONCERT

(Rfic. 1 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 12. The sergeants’ mess of the 75th New Zealand Bomber Squadron entertained Sergeant Pilot J. A. Ward, at a smoke, concert. Mr W. J. Jordan said: “ Ward brought honour on himself, on his squadron, and on tHe Dominion. We are , proud of him for • his courage and quickness of thought and action.” . . Ward, responding to the chorus “We -want Jimmy Ward,” paid a tribute to the ground crews. “ Those chaps,” he said. “ do as much as we ever do, but there are no Victoria Crosses for them.”
