TERRITORIAL PARADES
COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE EARLY STATEMENT ON QUESTION (O.'C.) WELLINGTON, July 29. "I hope to make a statement this week about compulsion for Territorials to attend week-end and night parades." said the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, when asked to-day if any action had yet been taken to see that members of the Territorial Force attended not only their three months' training but also subsequent parades. The Minister said that at present it was compulsory for Territorials to do three months' military training, but they were not compelled to attend week-end and night narades. A decision was being approached, however, and an early announcement would be made. <" Mr Jones was also asked about the provision for imembers of the Home Guard to receive pensions if injured during training. He said that home guardsmen were entitled under the War Pensions Amendment Act to the same treatment as serving Territorials if injured, as a result of undergoing training. MOBILISATION NOT PLANNED STATEMENT BY MINISTER (0.C.) WELLINGTON, July 29. A statement that there was no intention of ordering the complete mobilisation of the Territorial Forces in New Zealand at the present time was made to-day by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, when there was referred to him a cable message from Australia stating that officers, noncommissioned officers and key administrators totalling about 25 per cent, of the Australian militia strength were being called up for full-time service for the duration of the war.
