AIR RAIDS ON BRITAIN
RELIEF FUND IN NEW ZEALAND OTAGO’S QUOTA £9300 We have received the following from the Mayor, Mr A. H. Allen, in his capacity as chairman of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council:— The dreadful sufferings of the people of Great Britain and the stupendous loss of property caused by the cruel bombing of their cities by Germany, were discussed at a conference of representatives of national and provincial patriotic organisations recently held in Wellington, when it was unanimously agreed that a further sum of £IOO,OOO should now •be forwarded to the United Kingdom for the relief of the sufferers. This sum is to be raised throughout the Dominion on a pro rata population basis, under which Otago’s share is £9300. I feel sure that the people of our province will gladly avail themselves of this opportunity to express in tangible form our admiration for the heroism and courage which the people of our Motherland display daily by freely contributing to the appeal I now make to provide, the amount allocated to us as our share in this Dominion effort. Contributions will be acknowledged through the press. Will contributors kindly forward donations to the town clerk, Dunedin, or their zone treasurers of the Provincial Patriotic Council.
