ENEMY SHIPPING

HEAVY LOSSES SUFFERED DARING BRITISH SUBMARINES SEVERAL 'HARBOURS ENTERED (Rec. 8 p.m.) RUGBY, June 14. An Admiralty communique states that further successful attacks have been reported by our submarines operating against the enemy's sea communications in the Mediterranean. Not only have attacks been carried out at sea, but our submarines have sought out the enemy and destroyed him in his harbours.

An Italian armed trawler escorting two schooners was sighted by one of our submarines. The enemy convoy was chased and all three vessels were sunk by gunfire. Another submarine torpedoed and almost certainly sank a tanker of about 8000 tons. The Italian tanker Strombo (5232 tons) is reported

to have reached Istanbul after being seriously damaged by a torpedo from one of our submarines. In the, central Mediterranean, the harbounon the Italian island of Lampedusa has been attacked by a submarine and a .fully-laden ship of about 1000 tons lying hi" the harbour was sunk by a torpedo. Another submarine .investigated the harbour at Benghazi. An Italian armed merchant cruiser lying in the harbour was torpedoed. In the /Egean, a harbour in the enemyoccupied -island .of Mjtylene was attacked by submarine. Two schooners and a large supply lighter were sunk in the harbour. An Admiralty communique states that the operations of rounding up the enemy supply ships which put to sea in order to be available for the Bismarck and the Prince Eugeh are being continued successfully Another German supply ship has been intercepted and sunk. Thus six enemy supply ships and one armed trawler have been intercepted and sunk by our ships during these recent operations.
