IMPORT CONTROL
OPERATION OF REGULATIONS ROYAL COMMISSION SOUGHT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 12. Urging the chamber to press for a Royal Commission on the administration of the import control system, Mr Gainor Jackson, at a meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce to-day moved that the chamber should directlv urge on the Government the desirability of setting up a commission to inquire into the operation and administration oi the regulations. He said he despaired of the Associated Chambers taking action. After discussion, the motion was defeated. but a further motion moved by Mr Jackson, asking the Associated Chambers to' pursue the matter of having a Royal Commission set up immediately. was carried. It was further decided that the committee should consider joining with the Canterbury Chamber in requesting the Government to set up a permanent advisory council to deal with import licensing matters.
