POLISH DESTROYER

PART IN BISMARCK CHASE GALLANTRY AND EFFICIENCY RUGBY, June 8. A tribute to a Polish destroyer is paid in an Admiralty communique, which states: “Details are now available of the very gallant and efficient part played by the Polish destroyer Piorun, attached to a force commanded by Captain P. L. Vain. It was from the Piorun that the first sighting of the Bismarck by the destroyer force was made shortly after 10.30 p.m. on May 26. The IJiorun continued to close on the enemy after first sighting him, and came under heavy fire from the Bismarck’s main and, secondary armament. Owing to the skilful handling of the Piorun by manding officer, she suffered no damage or casualties. The Piorun herself engaged the Bismarck with her armament in a most spirited manner.”
