Mrs T. C. Fraser returned on Saturday to Christchurch. Miss Bidsbui’y, of Auckland, who is studying in Dunedin, was the guest of Mrs S. L. Geerin for the week-end.
Miss Kathleen Shand is paying a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Shand. in Palmerston North.
“ How to grow chrysanthemums ” is the title of the lecture to the Gardening Circle of the Otago Women’s Club arranged for this afternoon. Mrs V G. Munro, who has been spending some months with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. F. James, of Regent road, left yesterday by air en route to Sydney.
Miss Alison McCallum, who has been living in Sydney for the past six years, has returned to Dunedin with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. B. McCallum. to take up residence here again.
A notable visitor to Auckland last week was Mrs Charles Wood, wife of the Hon. Charles Ingram Wood, eldest son of Lord and Lady Halifax. Mrs Wood stayed at Government House and left New Zealand by the PanAmerican Clipper on Saturday. Word has been received of the tragic death in London of Misses Joan and Ruth Sunderland, daughters of the late Mr and Mrs J. Sunderland, of Gisborne. They lost their lives when their home in England was bombed. They were prominent social workers and were both trained by Miss Octavia Hill, the pioneer in housing reforms for the working classes.
To celebrate the coming of age of their daughter June, Mr and Mrs J. S Hungerford entertained a large party of friends in the Crawford Lounge on Saturday night. Dancing was the order of the evening, end the traditional key was autographed by the 70 guests. Mrs Hungerford, who received the guests, wore a gown of black lace and georgette, and the guest of honour was frocked in white watered silk taffeta. ‘The makers claim that no matter what you have wrong with you, R.U.R. will do you good.
