DUNEDIN LADIES’ BRASS BAND
FAREWELL TO MR A. HODGKINS On Tuesday evening in the Wilson Hall a social was held by the members of the Dunedin Ladies’ Brass Band. This was in the form of a farewell gathering for the conductor, Mr A. Hodgkins, who, on account of failing health, has to leave Dunedin. There was a very large attendance of members and friends, and the evening was spent In dancing, interspersed with the following items:—A cornet solo by Bandswoman N. Hemsley, a vocal duet by Bandswomen Hurley and Lelshman, a recitation by Bandswoman R. Reid, a cor net duet by Bandswomen Keen and Mackie; a trio, cornets and trombone, by Keen, Mackie and Hodgkins: a dance, by Miss I. Scott, and a juggling turn by Mr Robinson. After supper Mr J. Dixon, president ot the band made a presentation to Mr Hodgkins in the form of a cheque, and also a framed photograph of the Ladies' Band. Mr Dixon mentioned that Mr Hodgkins had made wonderful progress with the band, and it was very regrettable that be had to leave Dunedin, but he felt sure the good work Mr Hodgkins had started would be very beneficial to the members. On behalf of the members he wished Mr and Mrs Hodgkins and Barbara every success in Australia. Miss Rhoda Strachan, secretary, on behalf of the members, presented Mr and Mrs Hodgkins and Barbara with small gifts as tokens of the esteem in which they were held by the members. Mr Hodgkins, in reply, slated that he was very sorry to leave Dunedin. He referred to the progress of the band, also to the way in which the ladies had worked to make the band such a success. He trusted that the band would maintain its high standard under its new conductor.
