LOSS OF THE FIJI

FORMER NEW ZEALAND OFFICER BELIEVED TO BE ON BOARD (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 29. Paymaster-commander E. L. Tottenham is believed by the Navy Office in Wellington to have been on board the British cruiser Fiji, which was lost in the operations ofl Crete. He succeeded Paymaster-commander E. R. Durman as naval secretary in New Zealand in June, 1935, and was relieved by Pay-master-captain N. T. Cooper in May, 1939, when he left for England accompanied bv his wife and daughter (now 16 years of age) and was made a member of the Naval Board. He joined the navy in 1913 and served during the Great War with the Grand Fleet.
