SUPPLY COUNCIL
REQUIREMENTS OF THE ARMY DUTIES AND PERSONNEL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 29. The Minister of Supply, Mr D. G. Sullivan, announced to-day that the War Cabinet had authorised him to establish immediately a Supply Council. The functions of the council, the Minister said, had been drafted to include the centralising of all orders for the requirements of the armed forces, the control of such commodities as may be needed for defence, the responsibility for priorities in regard to defence supplies, and also in regard to shipping. The council, was further authorised to deal with possible economies and substitution in the present consumption, and with the reclamation and utilisation of waste matter. The requisitioning or commandeering of the supplies required for defence would also be a function of the council. Mr Sullivan announced the following personnel of the council: — The Minister of Supply. Mr-D, G. Sullivan, chairman.
Mr B. C. Ashwin, Secretary of the Treasury, Wellington. Mr D. A. Ewen. managing director of Messrs Sargood, Son. and Ewen. Wellington. Mr G. Jackson, managing director of the Ford Motor Company. Wellington. Mr F, G. Young, president of the Auckland Trades Council.
When the council is considering matters of shipping priority, Mr J. N. Greenland, manager of the Union Steam Ship Companv, will be a full member of the council. '
