BURGLARY CHARGE

ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE Pleading guilty to a charge of breaking and entering the premises of James Wreri and Co., Ltd., and stealing £4 in money and gold leaf to the value of £BS. David Roy McLachlan, a motor mechanic, aged 24 years, appeared in the City Police Court yesterday before Mr G. Stratton, J.P., and Mr G. Kitchin. J.P. After evidence had been taken, the accused, who pleaded guilty, was committed -to the Supreme Court for sentence. The accused was not represented by counsel, and, when the case was called in the morning, Detective Sergeant T. Y. Hall intimated that the police would be prepared to go on with the Drosecution in the afternoon. A remand was granted accordingly, and in the afternoon, the accused appeared before Mr J. C. Willis, J.P., and Mr G. Kitchin, J- p Evidence was given by Percy Thomas Wren to the effect that the firm's premises had been locked up last Friday night in the usual manner, and that on Saturday morning it was found that the money and the gold leaf had been stolen. Colin Wilson Fraser and Mortimer Kerr Haig also gave evidence regarding the securing ° f * h f premises. Detective Berry s'tated that, with Detective Marshall, he had arrested the accused. The accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme, Court for sentence. Bail was allowed in his own recognisance of £IOO and one surety of £IOO, and he was ordered to report daily to the police.
