FIRM FAT CATTLE MARKET GOOD PRICES FOR EWES A large entry of fat cattle was yarded at the Burnside sale of stock yesterday, 300 head being forward. The bullocks offered were confined principally to medium descriptions, with a few consignments of prime heavy grades, while cows and heifers, of which there was a preponderance of the former, made up practically half of the offering Heifers, being in shorter supply, commanded slightly more attention throughout, but generally all classes sold firm at late rates, with a slight appreciation over the concluding races. Values were: —Extra prime heavy bullocks sold to £l7 17s 6d; prime heavy, from £l4 12s (id to £l6 12s 6d; medium, from £ll 7s 6d to £l3 2s 6d; and light, down to £7 17s 6d Extra prime cow's and heifers sold to £ll 17s 6d; prime, from £7 17s 6d to £9 17s 6d; medium, from £5 17s 6d to £7 12s 6d; and light, down to £4 12s 6d.

The entry in the fat sheep section numbered 2404, the majority of the penning being ewes, principally of medium grades, with several consignments of choice heavy descriptions. Wethers forward were mostly fine-woolled sorts, with only odd pens of prime heavy sheep. Heavy wethers sold firm at late rates while finer-woolled full-mouth sheep met poor competition and were difficult to quit. There was a keen demand throughout for ewes, heavy grades appreciating from Is to Is 6d per head, while medium descriptions, w'ith the benefit of freezing competition, were from 2s to 2s 6d firmer Tlie sale concluded on a firm basis Values were:—Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 30s; prime heavy, from 25s to 28s 6d; medium, from 19s to 235; and light, down to 14s. Extra prime heavy ewes sold to 19s; prime heavy, from 15s 6d to 17s; medium, from 11s to 13s; and light, down to 9s 6d.
